Sports in Ancient Greece were the test of the time for them. The Olympics were a showcase of Ancient Greek Sports that started way back around the 775 B.C. These Olympics continued all the way through 393 A.D including 292 sets of Ancient Greek Games. They don’t really know how these games all started but most people told it over myths and theories. In the Ancient Greek Games, running was the first and only event. Events were added on as they went like Boxing, Wrestling, and Pentathlon. Boxing back in the Olympics was much more intense because they could only box with their bare hands or thinly wrapped hands. Boxing later than evolved into where they had to perform with metal in their gloves which created a harder and more dangerous hit. The Olympics have changed a lot to be were women can participate and the people are covered with clothes.
Compare/ Contrast Social Equality of Athens and Sparta By: Michael Covington Athens and Sparta have different social equalities. Athens social structure is just like our social structure, it is divided into 3 different classes. We both have an upper class, a middle class and a lower class. Sparta’s social structure also has 3 classes but they are not above or below each other, they are all equal. The upper class for Athens is the aristocrats, their middle class are the small farmers and their lower class is the Thetes and the Metics, also the slaves were considered lower class back in the Athens times. Sparta has Spartiates, Perioeci and the Helots. Athens and Sparta’s social equalities are different because of the way they believe life should be lived for everyone. In Athens they believe a boy should have a good education and live a wealthy life. Also they have to do a military camp for 2 years until there 20 and then they can live their own life. In Sparta, they want the boys at the age of 7 to start becoming a true fighter and live his own life. They want the boys to steel their food and fight for their own battles to death. It says that their moms tell them to “fight for victory or die”. Athens and Sparta’s social equalities are different because of their beliefs on what’s right and wrong. Social equalities for girls and women are different as well. Athens women are normally inside spinning or weaving. Wives in Athens are considered men’s property and most likely the men don’t like their women being alone outside. Sparta’s women can be found anywhere doing whatever they want, they are even aloud to wrestle and fight. They even try to have a fit and large body to compete or to guard their civilization when the men are gone. To me these social equalities are completely different, there like Legalism to Taoism when it comes to government. If I were to choose between Athens and Sparta depending on their social equalities, I would choose Athens. I would choose Athens over Sparta because the way teen boys live in each civilization. Athens boys get a great amount of education and live in nice homes as Sparta’s boys live on their own. Athens also has wonderful food and Sparta boys eat pork, blood, salt and vinegar. The difference between Sparta and Athens depending on social equality for my age is a big difference. Boys like me may like fighting (Sparta) but we mostly prefer to live in nice homes (Athens) watching the fights be staged out on theatre or with toys we play with.
